Still trying to understand Substack - why do I have so many more followers than free subscribers?
It only takes a few seconds to become a subscriber.
All my articles are deliberately free, and there is no restriction on commenting.
If people want to, and are able to, they can become paid subscribers, and as a thank you, receive three ebooks (PDF files) at no extra cost.
What I don’t yet understand is why some follow and not become free subscribers. If you know the answer, please let me know in a comment.
I am not complaining, just quite puzzled by the workings of Substack.
There are some who like the articles, and give good positive comments, yet are neither followers nor subscribers! Curious too.
Upgrade to a paid subscription and receive "Concise Islam" and "Abrogated Koran" and "Allah is a Zionist" PDFs for free!

I've been on substack now for 2 years and will be attempting to add paid subscriber tabs soon, because I'm going to be an OAP (meaning I will lose the £3000 p yr Carers Allowance), so every little helps!
I'm very nervous about it, but at least the free option for subscribers is always there.
I have the same issue, I have twice as many followers as subscribers. My theory is its because everyone automatically thinks being a "subscriber" means paying for it (even when you advertise it as "free to subscribe").
And/or they think that if they subscribe for free they will receive constant emails begging them to upgrade to paid. (I do get that from some creators I am subscribed to, it puts me off reading their latest posts).
"Following" is what people do on all other social media, so I think people apply the same logic to substack.
Many people don't want full articles, just Notes. That's how I understand the follower vs subscriber thing.
