PROBLEMS WITH THE KORAN

The Koran is a confusing muddle of seemingly contradictory instructions and stories. This has been realised many centuries ago. It is also very badly structured. There is no overall structured narrative, but a jumbled mass of interwoven snippets. A standard Koran is not even arranged in chronological order, but the chapters are arranged in roughly reverse size order - the larger chapters first.

Muslim scholars, over many centuries, have attempted to produce some sort of ordering to this mess. And the way they have done it, is to work out which chapters were revealed in Mecca (the earlier phase) and which in Medina (the later phase). The two phases have significantly different emphases.

In the Meccan phase, Mohammed had few followers, estimated at around 150. His focus was on defending the theology from criticism. Promoting monotheism against a background of widespread polytheism. (Although briefly Islam did become polytheistic when Mohammed acknowledged the existence of three goddesses, the companions of Allah.)

If Islam had remained at the Meccan phase, it would not be anywhere nearly as problematic for the world today. It may well have fizzled out, and been regarded as a footnote in history, a curious sect combining aspects of Christianity, Judaism, a bit of Zoroastrianism, and paganism. Mohammed was notorious for gathering snippets of other religions and incorporating them into Islam. A theological magpie, he was nicknamed “the big ear”. (A magpie is a bird that likes to gather shiny objects.)

Mohammed and his followers made themselves thoroughly unpopular among the polytheists of Mecca, and they migrated to Medina. There were Jewish communities in Medina. Mohammed thought that his ideas would be more welcomed there, since Judaism is monotheistic. He managed to get himself into the position of an arbiter, resolving disputes between communities. This gave him a significant status.

His hopes for acceptance as a genuine prophet by the Jews was however dashed. They saw him as a false prophet. Someone with a very poor grasp of Judaism, he was mocked. He was widely regarded as insane - where is the evidence for this? Curiously in the Koran itself! In his anger he slaughtered the Jews - many hundreds he murdered himself. And that was after they had been taken prisoner, not in battle. Some immediately, and those who fled were slaughtered later. This is a common theme in Islam: it cannot win the arguments logically and rationally, and resorts to violence.

The Medinan part of the Koran became increasingly political rather than purely theological. It has a hatred of nonbelievers, particularly Jews. The Medinan part of the Koran is more than twice as antisemitic as Mein Kampf. Dr Bill Warner has spent years studying political Islam (Islamism). Some naive people (Nigel Farage leader of Reform UK included, plus David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson etc) criticise Islamism (political Islam) but they refuse to criticise Islam itself. This is to completely misunderstand the reality of Islam. They seem to have swallowed the lies promoted by Tony Blair, that there exists a “true peaceful Islam” and quite separate from that is violent, hate-filled Islamism. Wrong wrong wrong! These lies have gone way past their sell-by date, and they stink of rotten fish. Very fishy.

The reality of course is that political Islam is an integral part of Islam itself. It cannot be separated out, it is deeply embedded in the Medinan part of the Koran. You would have to delete large chunks of the Koran if you want to rid it of Islamism. And that is not going to happen. You would also have to reject the concept of abrogation (that the later verses abrogate, effectively delete, the earlier verses, wherever contradictions exist). And you are not able to do that, since the Koran itself stipulates the principle of abrogation.

Yes there is a religious aspect of Islam. I don’t have concerns about that. If Muslims wish to pray 5 times per day, and go on pilgrimage to Mecca, and fast during Ramadan, that is no concern of mine. I think they are wasting their time doing it, but that is their choice. What is a concern are the verses that call for me to be murdered or discrminated against as a subjugated dhimmi. And this is core Islam, it cannot be separated out or ignored.

A standard Koran is a jumbled mess. It does not tell you the chronological ordering of the chapters. It probably does not tell you which chapters are Meccan and which are Medinan (and this really is crucial). And it does not tell you which verses are abrogated and which verses are the abrogators. It is utterly confusing and difficult to get a handle on properly. Some apologists for Islam take advantage of this confusion, in order to deliberately confuse non-Muslims. They will quote seemingly tolerant verses such as “no compulsion in religion”. But they never will tell you that such verses are abrogated, effectively deleted by the intolerant, violent verses.

What is urgently needed is a Koran that very clearly shows which verses are abrogated, and which are the abrogators. Fortunately we have it:

THE ABROGATED KORAN

As far as I am aware, this is the only Koran in existence that shows:

• Which verses are the abrogators, and which are abrogated.

• arranges the chapters into reverse chronological order. The more relevant chapters are thus read first.

• Colour codes the verses by category. And so very easily and quickly you can see which verses relate to jihad, which relate to unbelievers, which relate to Israel, etc.

One way or another you must get a copy ASAP. The UK is introducing increasingly draconian laws. It may soon be that we have de facto anti-blasphemy laws, in the form of an anti-”Islamophobia” law. You need to fully stock your library of significant books, while they are yet available. We are in for a very dark time indeed in the UK. The freedoms we still enjoy really cannot be guaranteed now.

This is the only Koran which has the combined useful features itemised above, as far as I am aware. Grab it while you yet can.

My hope is that the UK does not become Islamic. But this hope is shrinking rapidly now.

CONCISE ISLAM - order multiple paperback copies, and hand them out to people you know. Alerting people by word of mouth is often the most effective way. It is deliberately a slim book, covering the key aspects of Islam as they relate particularly to non-Muslims.
