A slim book on Islam. Without the usual rose-tinted perspective!
SUMMARY
This is a slim book, A5 page size and deliberately less than 5 mm thick. At this size, it can be posted in the UK postal system at a standard letter cost.
In 2021 a copy was sent to nearly every UK Member of Parliament. By curious coincidence, the final batch was posted on the day that Sir David Amess was murdered by a jihadi terrorist.
It describes the key aspects of Islam in small chunks.

The conventional Islamic chronology is shown here. Note that modern scholars of Islam have significant doubts regarding the accuracy of the early chronology. Look up online “did Mohammed exist?” to find out why there is a questioning of the conventional narrative. See also “In the Shadow of the Sword” by Tom Holland. We do however need to understand the conventional chronology, as shown here:

613 AD First public preaching.
615 AD First martyr, Sumayyah bint Khabbab.
622 AD Migration (Hijrah) from Mecca to Medina. Start date of the Islamic calendar. AH = Anno Hegirae = year of the Hijrah
624 AD Battle of Badr – first military victory.
630 AD Conquest of Mecca.
632 AD Death of Mohammed. Possibly poisoned by a Jewish woman whose husband was murdered by Muslims.
632-661 AD “Rightly guided Caliphs”: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali
632-650 AD The Koran is written down. Caliph Uthman rationalizes the divergent versions, starting in 644 AD. Many texts destroyed.
632 AD The Hadith and Sunna start to be written.
642 AD Start of the rapid conquests of Syria, Palestine, Egypt.
661 AD Assassination of Ali, the founder of Shi'ite branch. Start of the rift, leading to splitting into Shi'ite and Sunni branches.
711 AD Muslims enter Spain.
1095 AD First Crusade. Sixth was in 1227 AD. Ninth 1271-1272 AD.
1453 AD Constantinople conquered by the Ottomans.
1492 AD Spain re-conquered by Christians.
1529 AD Ottoman Empire halted at Vienna. And again in 1692 AD.
1924 AD The Caliphate is abolished by Mustafa Ataturk.
1924 AD Standardized Koran in Arabic is agreed -(14 centuries late!)
1948 AD Israel established, despite opposition from Arab nations.
INTRODUCTION
We must make the effort to understand Islam. We need to understand that although we may not be particularly interested in Islam, Islam is very much interested in non-Muslims, and not in a good way!
This book is intended as a brief introduction to the key aspects of Islam. The sections are short, intended more as notes than as deep analyses. There is much information available online, if further details are needed.
Islam has a number of characteristics that make it especially dangerous. If you are familiar with another religion, Christianity for example, then you might naturally assume that Islam is similar in structure, although with a few differences of doctrine. This assumption would be complacent, and perilously wrong. Unfortunately, even prominent Christians have been deceived by Islam, and are leading several major denominations of the Church astray. Such clerics have either not understood Islam properly, or if they have, they lack the courage to be honest when describing it. It is human nature to prefer a quiet life!
Secular authorities have also failed to get to grips with Islam. They seem not to have understood even the fundamentals of Islam, and have thus taken the whole of society along an incorrect, and precarious path. In the UK these secular authorities include the government, the major political parties, the legal profession, including prominent judges, social services and health care, the police, local authorities, the security services, the education sector, the prison service, and even the armed forces — the Ministry of Defence is pro-Islam too!
It would be easy to fall into a state of doom and gloom. However, there are promising signs. An estimated one quarter of younger people growing up in Muslim families are rejecting Islam. This is an extraordinarily courageous thing to do, as under Sharia law there is the death penalty for apostasy (leaving the religion).
In theory, Islam should not be able to survive the Internet age. As more people worldwide are exposed to the modern concepts of science, decent enlightenment values, and Human Rights, it is becoming increasingly obvious to them that Islam is incompatible with the 21st century.

CONCISE ISLAM - order multiple paperback copies, and hand them out to people you know. Alerting people by word of mouth is often the most effective way. It is deliberately a slim book, covering the key aspects of Islam as they relate particularly to non-Muslims. Each chaper is a single page, in effect an executive summary of a particular aspect of Islam. It does not sugar-coat Islam, nor view it through rose-tinted spectacles. If you want such a book, you have plenty to choose from elsewhere.

ABROGATED KORAN - this edition of the Koran is unique as far as I am aware. No other Koran does all three of these: 1. Arranges the chapters into reverse chronological order. 2. Clearly indicates the abrogated and abrogating verses. Understanding abrogation is absolutely key to understanding the Koran. 3. Colour codes the verses by category. You can see at a glance which verses relate to jihad, to unbelievers, to Israel, etc. The paperback is printed in colour, of course! Colour printing does add to the printing cost.
